Our Time Together
ABHM will be at the Milwaukee Art Museum on February 6th for a free day celebrating the monumental work On Site: Derrick Adams: Our Time Together, which closes May 11. Learn more about Milwaukee’s historic Bronzeville area, connect with local Black-owned businesses, and learn more about the Milwaukee stories featured in Our Time Together. Bring along your family and friends to connect through art, music, movement, and more.
Event Lineup
Art Making | 10 a.m.–6 p.m.
Ignite your imaginative side in two different art-making zones. In the Kohl’s Art Studio, make dramatic necklaces inspired by the Caribbean and African American artist Art Smith. In the Milwaukee Room, enjoy creating your own doll with guest facilitator, multimedia artist and illustrator Kierston Ghaznavi (activity ends at 4 p.m.).
Community Engagement Fair | 10 a.m.–4 p.m.
Meet several Milwaukee organizations improving the lives of our communities by promoting health, history, and well-being, and supporting Black-owned businesses.
Film Screening: Milwaukee PBS: Black Nouveau: “Historic Bronzeville/Black Nouveau Founders”| 10:30 a.m.–4:30 p.m. (Special Screening + Talk Back with Black Nouveau: Noon–1 p.m.)
Enjoy a short documentary highlighting Milwaukee’s Bronzeville District and the creators of Milwaukee PBS’s Black Nouveau. See the businesses working to uphold the neighborhood’s legacy as a hub for Black arts, culture, and commerce. Join us for a special noon screening followed by a talkback featuring Earl Arms, Black Nouveau host, and Everett Marshburn, Black Nouveau producer.

Enjoy a performance by Nathan Merriweather, an alto saxophone musician.

Join Nakeysha Roberts Washington, the Chief Executive Officer of Genre: Urban Arts, for a guest gallery talk exploring Our Time Together and the amazing stories uncovered by Genre: Urban Arts’s Revolutionary Arts and Culture Residency while interviewing individuals featured in the mural.

Join Joanna Brooks of Embody Yoga for a movement experience inspired by On Site: Derrick Adams: Our Time Together.
