Ways to Support ABHM?
Murdered in: Grayson | June 8, 1892
An email received by the Memorial on March 2, 2013:
Hi folks,
Just thought I'd let you know, for whatever you wish to do with the information, that one of the victims of lynching that you list, Austin Porter, was not black. He was brother to my great-great-grandmother; their genealogy is pretty well documented back to the 1750s and before. Austin was lynched for murdering his wife, which was not uncommon in those awful days; no suggestion of racial hatred in the act.
Best regards; I think your work is very important.
Jim Porter.
