Upcoming Event

We will discuss The Three Mothers on January 26th at 6 PM CT via Zoom.

In honor of the upcoming Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day, we have selected a book that covers the 1960s Civil Rights Movement from a perspective long overlooked –that of the mothers of Dr. MLK Jr., James Baldwin, and Malcolm X.

Much has been written about Berdis Baldwin’s son James, about Alberta King’s son Martin Luther, and Louise Little’s son Malcolm. But virtually nothing has been said about the extraordinary women who raised them. In her groundbreaking and essential debut The Three Mothers, scholar Anna Malaika Tubbs celebrates Black motherhood by telling the story of the three women who raised and shaped some of America’s most pivotal heroes.

The ABHM Book Club is free and open to all who are able to attend, although the books will need to be purchased by each participant. If you are having trouble finding a copy, please email admin@abhmuseum.org.
