Can We Make a Home in Milwaukee: Screening and Discussion

Wellpoint Care Network will host a private screening of the movie “Can We Make a Home in Milwaukee?” on Monday, September 9 from 5 to 7:30 p.m. in our Training Center (8901 W. Capitol Drive, Milwaukee). Admission and parking are free.

Why Attend?
Immigration today is hotly debated. Some say countries send us their criminals, their mentally ill and people with little education or skills. Others worry that our communities spend too much money supporting such people, who don’t even pay taxes. Indeed, Milwaukee receives many immigrants. It has long been America’s most foreign-born city. Is this good for us? Come find out. Wellpoint Care Network invites you to its special showing of this film and a lively (and civil) interactive discussion of these questions – and more. About This Movie
Produced in Milwaukee, it features the intimate personal stories of immigrants and refugees who’ve settled here from Tanzania, Afghanistan, Northern Ireland, Myanmar (Burma), Ukraine, Laos and Pakistan. Did they achieve the American Dream? Or create an American nightmare? • Maryam Durani — Afghan, winner of international awards as a women’s rights activist (and her father Mr. Issa Durani, also a women’s rights activist)
• Monica Ashery — Tanzanian, owner of an African products store in MKE
• Jack Green — Northern Irish, former natural herbs and foods store owner, now retired
• Zongsae Vang — Laotian, community worker with the elderly at the Hmong American Friendship Association
• Tanya Arbit – Ukrainian, on the Board of the Milwaukee Jewish Federation and the leader of Women’s Philanthropy
